Cyberborean Chronicles

Cyberborean Chronicles is a personal blog of me, Alex Alishevskikh.

This is the second version of Cyberborean Chronicles, launched in September of 2008. The previous version existed since December of 2005 on and still available on there. All archives of Cyberborean Chronicles 1.0 are moved to this site.

The views and opinions expressed here are my own, and neither my company, employers nor any other party necessarily agrees with them.

The articles are organized into categories and labeled by tags. Categories are flat content sections for grouping articles by their format (Essays, Announcements, Reviews etc). Tags are keywords identifying article topics (linux, java, desktop etc). You can navigate through this site with the tags cloud and categories list.

To browse the blog archives by months, use the drop-down menu on the left sidebar.

When reading an article, you can see a list of “See also” links on the sidebar. These are similar blog posts you might be interested in after reading the current one.

Photo gallery is a separate part of the site, organized with its own tags system.

Cyberborean Chronicles is powered by original WordPress engine with a bunch of plug-ins for various cool stuff.

Cyberborean Chronicles:Photos is powered by Gallery2 software (with some customization hacks).

All software is hosted on the solid rock LAMP platform served by

The default feed format is RSS version 2.0. To get the feeds in Atom format, use */feed/atom URL syntax (e.g.

I’m highly recommend to try SCAN with the Syndication feed plugin as a RSS/Atom feed aggregator. It is free, open source and can do a lot more than basic fetching and displaying the feeds content. Yeah, I am a developer of it.

Cyberborea: “Here be dragons”

Some historical traditions put misterious Hyperborea of Greek mythology in the area of the Ural Mountains where I’m born and living.

Never on land or by sea will you find
the marvelous road to the feast of the Hyperborea.
